Toshiba Laptops Firmware Security

A group of researchers published a presentation about hacking Toshiba laptop. They did this work to create a keygen for their BIOS password recovery mechanism. The keys for signing the EU firmware were obtained during the work. This allowed them to type a hidden and resistant rootkit on the laptop.

In this presentation, Michal Kovalchyk, Serge Bazanski examined how this is related to the latest notebook models.

Toshiba plans to start the release of a permanent fix for some models from January, 2018 and will complete the releases of permanent fix for
all applicable models by the end of March 2018.
