It’s possible due to TrustZone kernel code execution vulnerability. “Bits, please” blog author explored the Motorola bootloader on recent Qualcomm Snapdragon devices. He used Moto X (2nd Gen) for demonstration. According to the author, this technique can be used for most modern Motorola devices.
